DSC_0039This custom piece started with a client that had her eye on a bed with drawers from a big-box retailer that looked right, but didn’t quite work right for her.  I was able to offer solid walnut selected for its character and uniqueness, a handrubbed oil and wax finish,  a split and angled headboard, and a metal bumper rail above the drawers.  Tailored to work.

New Century Shelving System

October 10, 2012

Inspired by the mid-century classics, this walnut shelving system can be set up in many configurations.  Just pull the pegs, move the supports up or down and choose what components you want at what heights.  The package pictured here was designed as a media console, but the possibilites are endless.  Cabinets, desks, drawers, wardrobe hooks… If you can think of it, I can work it in!

Dean Credenza

April 29, 2012

The Dean Credenza is a showcase of contrasting materials: salvaged cedar, navy blue leather and polished brass.  The solid wood case displays the exterior face of planks taken from deconstructed NYC water towers. Dark lines perpendicular to the grain are evidence of the steel bands that once bound the water tank. A wax finish keeps the weathered wood looking as close to its natural grey patina as possible. Doors clad in deep blue leather and brass hardware offset the cedar’s rustic feel.  Casual luxury.

Scaffold Media Console

March 25, 2012

This media console houses components, hides cords, and anchors your flat screen.  It is constructed of weathered spruce scaffold planks, with a clean birch plywood interior, and easy-down door hardware by Sugatsune.  As pictured it is 72″ long x 20″ tall x 18 deep, with vintage brass handles.

Martin Table

January 19, 2012

We didn’t want the legs of this table to disappear under the large reclaimed wood top, nor did we want more obstruction to leg room than was necessary.  Instead of using steel bar or tube, we achieved  volume by designing with heavy gauge sheetmetal, bent and formed to a custom profile.  The result anchors the space without feeling too heavy. The top is made of floor joists salvaged from a renovation at my shop.

Atlantic Shelving

October 23, 2011

Add storage and display space, check.  Accentuate the height of the room, check.   Maintain a free-hanging look, check. Integrate the television and media components, check.  Hide cords, check.   Come in on budget, check…

The Atlantic Shelving and Media System accomplishes all these goals through simplicity.  The materials are modest: blackened steel brackets and reclaimed douglas fir planking, and the forms are basic.  Careful attention to proportions and spacing allow an amazing amount of functionality to complete the room rather than clutter it.  The media cabinet is fit with a heavy duty, full extension shelf that allows easy access to the components’ cables while keeping the tangle out of sight.
